A Letter to the Editor-Anne Thurlow
To the Editor:
When choosing a State Representative, voters should look beyond party labels and social media presence and pay close attention to the candidate’s judgment, temperament, experience, and approach to the issues that affect our communities.
Anne Santoro deserves serious consideration for State Representative.
Anne may not ride a bicycle around town or post multiple selfies on social media every day, but that does not mean she is not engaged. Quite the opposite. She does her homework. She takes time to research issues thoroughly, consider different perspectives, and understand the details before forming an opinion. Just as importantly, she can discuss those positions calmly and respectfully.
Those qualities matter.
We need a representative who can disagree without becoming disagreeable—a person who can listen, explain their reasoning, and work through difficult issues without resorting to personal attacks, inflammatory rhetoric, or threats. Anne Santoro brings that kind of maturity and thoughtfulness to public service.
I especially appreciate Anne’s prioritizing the need for local decision-making. Decisions that directly affect our community should not be imposed through one-size-fits-all state mandates. Nick Menapace supported House Bills 7033 and 5260, which would have allowed the homeless to sleep overnight on our town beaches. I look forward to hearing Anne and Nick discuss pertinent issues in a public debate. Voters deserve to hear them answer questions and explain their positions.
Regardless of the national political climate, this local election is about who is best prepared to represent the 37th District thoughtfully, responsibly, and independently. I believe Anne Santoro is that person.
